Blackout?

I think 'blackout' is one of the good words to communicate, the state of enforced 'perception blindness' in the present India, where I live. Everyday, I fight this perception battle with my family, friends and society. I used to wonder, why can't they 'see' the obvious?

Then, I learned from Sauvik, what is theory? He told me, "it's the link between sensation and perception". This simple definition made it easier for me to understand the 'strange' behavior of my folks. Now, I realised what exactly caused the difference in perception, of the same sensations I recieve with them.

I think, it's the absence of right theories which is depriving people from reasonably perciving their reality. This is a forced theory blackout.

Suppose, I walk into a tribal community who never knew internet. How can I convince him of say 'google earth' in the absence of internet? All he is likely to perceive this laptop at best is a new portable television, which he heard about.

At last! Huh...

Nice one to start with... Keep it up.

I just want to add one more example with yours one-

Only by hearing the name of Hilsa fish, water starts rolling in every Bengali's mouth, imagining the taste we try to feel the eternal delicacy and when it comes real in our plates we can delightedly sacrifice anything else. Now imagine the reaction of a pure vegetarian who has never tasted any non veg dish in his life. Killing a fish is a sort of crime to him, aroma(?) of Hilsa Siddho may make him sick and if anyone forces him to eat it he would rather vomit instantly.

Here comes your formula of "the link between sensation and perception". But in this particular scenario, no one is actually totally wrong, Non Vegis have their own reasons and so do the Vegis. It's a matter of taste. Though we all can surely put our points to justify the eating of non veg or no non veg with loud voices but it's also a truth that we all have our options with which life can be passed smoothly, no matter you love Hilsa dishes or love to save Hilsa's lives.

Everything is not only Black or White, there is also an important colour, Gray...

Gray is a nice politically correct word. Things are either black or white, gray is what 'I don't know' but fact remains a fact.

Basis of taste is the theory here. People with all kinds of theories certainly live a life; but a better theory makes life better.

It's good to see you here Satyjit. Though I disagree with you on most of the piont I admire your intellect. I had my own understanding about 'Theory' but, for now I don't find anything wrong in Sauvik's words, where he says,It's the link between sensation and perception. Sensetions start their jurney from reality that surounds them. That's why the tribes who does not know internet , will mistook laptop with Televission, but a portable one. Theory itself can't do anything good, unless the individual or group under its influence change the real world first, which will start working for a new sensetion.

@ Pragyan: theory generates the mental momentum, which transforms into physical force to ultimately bring about the thus predetermined change in 'real world'.

A change in so to say GoI (liberalisation)theory to withdraw prohibition on private sector in telecommunication, resulted into this huge real world change- we now witness, a mobile in every hand. Raju, hardly had to change his real world for this, rather change came to him.
